Detoxifying treatments cater to guests that want to shape up body and mind

I find that our guests are becoming increasingly aware of what goes into and onto their bodies. In response, I have begun requiring our product lines to be more earth and body friendly and many are organic, vegan, gluten and paraben free and do not test on animals. Medical grade skin care lines such as SkinCeuticals are primarily botanical while utilizing the best and most effective medical grade components available on the market at a price point suitable for our market.
Detoxifying wraps and body treatments cater to this trend by allowing guests to shed toxins while firming and toning the skin in the areas that need it the most. Special products are applied that increase circulation and are steam infused to accelerate the detoxifying effect through the largest organ in the body. Art and the Mind Body Connection

Process painting, zentangle, drumming, expressive and interpretive movement, dance and other visual and performing arts are increasingly becoming part of the spa culture as we recognize their value to the mind body connection. These activities are thought to cause the brain to release neurotransmitters that affect our mood. These neurotransmitters affect various functions, including the regulation of mood, appetite, sleep, muscle contraction, and some cognitive functions including memory and learning.
We have recently added SpaDoodle as a class to provide a space, the materials and the guidance to participate in a little mind body connection right here in Sherman, Tx. Check out my spadoodle I made in class in June 2010.
What to expect? The SpaDoodle class takes place in either the Pat Nuckols Community Room or in the relaxation area with a quiet and meditative atmosphere. You will be provided some basic materials including sketch paper, doodle square, and a variety of charcoal, india ink pens, markers, crayons and pencils to work your doodle while you calm your mind. This class is not art instruction, but brain restoration!
Take some time in your day to participate in our classes and events, whether or not you engage in other spa services that day, to improve your mood, concentration and other functions.

Bella Fontana Spa opened its doors in September of 2005. The Spa has been recognized each year after the first full year of operation in 2006 by the Voters in the Herald Democrat’s Best of Texoma Award as the Best Day Spa, every year since 2007, and for Best Massage every year since 2008. The Best of Texoma Award requires a signed ballot with an address and phone number, and the voters must vote in at least five categories for their vote to be tallied. Over 3,000 individual ballots are cast each year. We appreciate and feel honored by this recognition from our community.

One of our most popular purchases are our instant gift certificates. Approximately 15-20% of our Gift Certificates have been purchased from out of state and as far away as Iraq and Afganistan by soldiers that want to treat someone special to a Spa-aaah! experience.
The first time this happened, it was over the phone and it took several hours of conversation and disconnections to make it happen. I determined to find a way to make it easy to purchase a gift certificate online, in the Spa or over the phone for anyone!

Drumming at Bella Fontana Spa
On occasion we gather a group of friends and occasions and drum at the Spa!
What is great about drumming, is the energy given and received. Believe it or not, you are burning calories, relieving stress and just plain old having fun. Often, there is no official ‘leader’. We start off with a rhythm and keep it going until it dies down, and then start over again. Sometimes, we bring a dish and our refreshments of choice to share.

A few years ago I had the opportunity to enjoy a seven day Royal Norwegian Cruise among five of the Hawaiian Islands. My favorite spot on the trip was the Lavender Farm. Each night the ship would travel to another port, and my Father, Dr. Thomas W. Nuckols and I would disembark and travel by car to the various parks, beaches, towns and, of course, Spas. Among all those opportunities, driving up the volcano on Maui to the Lavender Farm was one of the most peaceful.
As you enjoy my photos, keep in mind that the temperature was only in the eighties and that cool sea breezes can be felt on most of Maui. This family owned business produced all types of lavender to be used in teas, sugar, body products and more. However, it is rarely exported to the mainland because of the cost. I did bring back several samples to Bella Fontana Spa, but they were quickly consumed. Our lavender products primarily come from a supplier with many aromatherapy and ayurvedic products including sugar and salt scrubs, massage creams, lotions and oils and herbal heat and cold therapies, including Narayan Oil that we use to relieve pain and stiffness.
The walk with the tall conifers took you by the lavender gardens and the house and outbuildings. Other paths led into the fields and around the property to the wedding platform, shop and the deck where you could enjoy teas and treats infused with lavender. As you look toward the shore and down the slope of the volcano, you can just see the top of the owner’s home (white roof) indicating the steep drop of the sides of the volcano. These are not cliffs, just a steady downward slope to the area between the two volcanoes that forms the bays on each side.
